Managed to squeeze in another round of Golf yesterday, but I have to say it was a bit of a washout. I seem to have experienced the full climate range within the last 10 days and yesterday it was the turn of the rain. As it was during the week and conditions were also less than ideal, the course was vey quiet, so I got in a bit more practice and played two balls, with a bit of competition going on between Mr Titleist and Mr Callaway. Mr Titleist won by 3 strokes. I must have walked twice the normal distance as I zig-zagged the puddles and mini lakes which had formed. I returned home looking in a bit of a sorry state and all my clothes went immediately into the wash.
I’ve continued to pursue the use of my Driver, with mostly good effect, and one particular shot probably ranked as one of my furthest (straight) drives ever. However, I wish all the parts of my game would come together at the same time, but then I don’t suppose this is particularly unusual in the golfing fraternity.
I’m really struggling now with my short game around the green and with my pitching and chipping. I think I need to get back together with my golf coach, Ian, and try to sort this out. If I could develop a more subtle touch around the greens, I’m sure I could knock off a stroke per hole, which would would give me double bogey golf, and from there reduce my average score to about 100, which is where I want to be by the summer. Thinking about it, I feel the mistake I could be making is not hitting down on the ball and allowing the loft of the club to hit it up - whereas I have a tendency of hitting up, trying to scoop the ball and give it a helping hand. I’ll try to think about this next time out.
In the evening I signed up to the local golf, society’s weekend away, but I’ve got a long wait, and a lot more playing before this, as isn’t until September.

Got something to say?

Try placing the ball a bit toward the back of your stance for short chips. This helps promote crisp and consistant contact.
