Golfing Overdrive

I played four rounds of golf last week, which is some sort of record for me. Although I took up the game last summer, until last week I hadn’t played since November. The last game was with my father who is also a recent convert - at 73! I’m embarrassed to say this is the first activity I’ve done with my dad since I was a kid, and it would never have happened, had it not been a shared interest in Golf. As well as a bit of father/son bonding, it also makes buying presents for him a whole bunch easier.
A lot of the golfers I know are what I would call, ‘fair-weather’, golfers and will only play, weather permitting;usually in the summer. The weather last week was gorgeous with bright sun and 0-5 degrees C, temperature. On Sunday, there were guys in short sleeves - in February! (climate change may have some benefits after all!). Nothing beats golf on a crisp morning with the heat of the sun on your back. The only difficulty, with the sun being so low this time of year, is following the ball as it leaves the club head. This was a bit frustrating because I hit some shots which felt really good, but lost them as soon as they launched.
The fact that my established golfing, friends don’t play over the winter, gives me an opportunity to catch up and come out all guns blazing in the summer. I figure between now and June in getting in approx 30 rounds, which will hopefully raise my game up a notch to a better standard in the summer - roll on those twilight nights.
