Now it’s the Hexagonal Driver!

Whatever next for the Golf Driver - the Dodecahedron Driver? We’ve had square, triangular and pear-shaped. Now for the next futuristic driver clubhead - hexagonal!
Hippo Golf is launching the Hippo Hex driver at next week’s PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida, the showcase for the golf trade in 2007.
It’s one of the few products to be revealed for the first time and is certain to have golfers gasping. It features a unique eight-sided shape that Hippo claims creates ‘optimum weight distribution to reduce the effect of side spin for the straightest and longest drives.’
The 460cc clubhead is designed to ‘reduce drag on the backswing and generate higher head speed at impact.’ with its thin, but legal face and six grammes of additional weight at the ‘aft corners’ to help stability.
When it eventually makes it to Europe - and who knows if we’re ready for it, quite yet! - it’s likely to have a Mitsubishi Rayon graphite shaft and a price tag just under £100. In the US it will be available in right-handed only with stiff and regular flexes and loft options of 9, 10 and 12 degrees.
I’m not sure I’m ready for an Hexagonal Driver, but in my own quest for a new Driver I’ve now done some research and I’m starting to like the look of the Mizuno-MX500. It appears to offer everything I’m looking for (in my budget) and having visited a number of review websites, it seems to score consistently high, with golfers of all ability.

I dont see what the fuss is about. I own one of these and they dont look strange, only big. They go quite a distance as well
Andy, like most things in life; if it works for you then ignore the rest. I think many golfers are traditionalists and there’s always some resistance to what many see as, ‘marketing hype’.
Interesting to read your comments though, because despite seeing reviews and for sale online, I’ve yet to see one in the ‘flesh’ - either on the golf course or in the high street, shops.
