Stack and Tilt

While watching some recent PGA Tour coverage the commentator mentioned something that was the hot new concept in Golf and apparently all the rage on Tour, being used by more than 20 of the Pros - The Stack and Tilt Golf Swing. Intrigued by this statement I dug a bit deeper to see what all the fuss was about.

The best explanation I found was over at Gold Digest where they describe The New Tour Swing and how it works. They use Aaron Baddeley who they say has been ‘stacked’ since last year, to demonstrate the technique.  If you’re like me and you prefer to see video demonstrations then Golf Tips has more analysis on the Stack and Tilt Swing.

The essence of the swing seems to be in the weight distribution, which is moved forward toward the front foot and stays there throughout the swing. This avoids the weight transference associated with the more conventional swing and by doing so, offers greater control in hitting the ball.

Hear what Mike Bennett, who is credited with being the innovator, has to say in the following video.

This all looks and sounds very interesting and anything which shows such a high take up rate among the Pros, deserves to be taken seriously.  Personally though, having just changed almost everything in my own swing, and got it a lot closer to where I’d like it to be , I’m not about to start buggering around with it again now.

Interesting concepts. The Stack and Tilt name has a great marketing title. But, it doesn’t sound like a complete swing rehaul, just a few swing tips here and there.

Jon, I think you’re probably right and you do wonder if it’s another case of ‘style over function’.

I’m watching that space with interest so we’ll see how it develops.

I am not sure about this stack and tilt swing: When I wanted to give it a try with my golf pro he said he wouldn’t even disucss it. Seems like it is considered nonsense among professional teachers…seems like I have to give it a try on my own.

Lars, well they do describe stack & tilt as contradicting anything else which is being taught in the game today – so I guess there’s your answer.

obviously all of the above comments are voting for Obama because they haven’t even tried the concept and because it goes against the norm it is wrong. However I will tell all of you liberal geniuses that I went from 14 handicap to a 3 handicap in 13 days. But then again I’m willing to look at things fair and balanced just like fox news!

As a weekend warrior living in Florida, I get to play all year long. I’ve been using the stack and tilt for about 3 -4 months and I must say I’m playing much better with more consistency. I have a rib head in my back that cries out in pain by the back nine when I use a conventional swing; it has disappeared with the stack and tilt. Ball contact is much more consistent and I’m getting more distance. More greens in regulation make the game a lot more fun. Give it a try.
