The London 2007 Golf Show

Last week I attended the London 2007 Golf Show, ExCel, London. I had planned to write a full review but Golf in London beat me to it in the usual eloquent style.

Overall I was a bit disappointed with an event that was being billed as the biggest golf show in Europe. There was far too much emphasis on golfing vacations and property investments and there seemed some notable absentees; Nike being the most obvious one. There was only one Golf retailer - American Golf, who as co-sponsors of the event, took up an inordinate amount of floor space and no doubt had an exclusivity clause built in to their contract.

The biggest disappointment though was the Golf Punk stand. Now, I’m a big fan of Golf Punk and admire their refreshing input into the game, but their stand was just lazy. It consisted of a table with a few back-issues strewn across it, a Nintendo Wii showing a golf simulator, a small sound system and a bar in the corner. Seems their MarComms people or their budget, went AWOL.

The most interesting part for me was talking to the “small guys”, the ones with a patent, a big smile and a great deal of optimism and enthusiasm, more of which later…….
